Benalmadena is located on the Costa del Sol and covers an area of nearly 30 sq km looking out onto the Mediterranean Sea. It is always lively, but the busiest time of year is during the hot summer months, when holidaymakers from across Europe swell the population by more than triple - up to 100,000 people. The region is easily accessible from both Malaga capital and International Airport and the area offers an easy lifestyle and a comfortable climate.
Benalmadena is split into three distinct areas… there is the old village - Benalmadena Pueblo - that has managed to keep some of its character in the midst of the vast amounts of building works and property developments that now surround it, where not so long ago it was bordered by rough countryside. The busy commercial town centre separating the village on the hill from the sea front is Arroyo de la Miel. This area has grown rapidly, due greatly to the excellent train service running between Fuengirola and Malaga, as well as good road connections. The third area is Benalmadena Costa - the coastal area - that encompasses many hotels and self catering apartments, fabulous sandy beaches and the Marina.
Whether you rent a villa in Benalmadena Pueblo or a holiday apartment overlooking the Marina in Benalmadena Costa, the region offers everything you need for a full and entertaining self catering holiday in the Costa del Sol. With a huge variety of restaurants to choose from, eating out gives the option of all nationality restaurants, including, Chinese, Italian, Dutch and Lebanese. There are also plenty of opportunities to try out the local dishes and one of the best places to go is along the beach and visit a "Chiringuito" (Beach Bar) where fresh fish dishes are served up with a wonderful chilled wine or a refreshing glass of sangria.
Benalmadena is also one of the best places on the Costa del Sol for nightlife with something to suit all tastes. From the latest nightclub sounds with top DJ's, to live jazz, or salsa dancing till dawn, the Marina Port has it all.
There are plenty of entertaining family days out to places like the theme park at Tivoli World, the fabulous Jardin de Las Aguilas (Garden of Eagles), the penguins and dolphins at Selwo Marina or a ride in the Cable Car to see breathtaking views of the coast.
The promenade is one of the smartest on the Costa del Sol, stretching across the Benalmadena area with the relaxing tranquility of sand and sea on one side and the bustling commercial hubbub of activity on the other. You will also see an amazing variety of mosaics by various artists, the styles and materials of which differ greatly. There are many bars and restaurants all along the sea front, where you can enjoy a pleasant time looking out across the Mediterranean or watching the world go by.
