Costa Del Azahar is an area of great contrasts, with stunning ocean views dotted with golden ‘Blue Flag’ beaches, pine-covered rugged mountains and busy traditional fishing villages. Costa Del Azahar has excellent connections by land and air and the fine cities of Castellón, Valencia and Barcelona are within easy reach. The region is bordered by Catalonia in the north, Aragon in the west and in the south by Costa Blanca.
The Costa del Azahar or Orange Blossom Coast runs from just south of Valencia, north to near the Ebro Delta. It is a mainly flatish coastline, much of it being backed by orange groves and has some excellent beaches, popular with families. Gandia is the most southerly resort on the Costa del Azahar and has long stretches of fine sandy beach.
Beside sandy white beaches and fragrant orange groves, the Costa del Azahar offers a pleasant climate, breathtaking countryside (both coast and mountains) and delicious local cuisine. While there may not be many golf courses — no bad thing on environmental grounds — the province has the highest proportion of land protected in parks and nature reserves in Spain. In short, this is an attractive, very Spanish coast with plenty of things to do.
In Costa del Azahar, self-catering villas offer stunning locations somewhere between the spectacular mountain landscapes and the superb beaches that feature regularly along the coastline, all of which have the potential for endless opportunities for people of all ages - from sunbathing and watersports to visiting the Sierra de Irta National Park or taking a peaceful stroll through the orange groves.
The Costa del Azahar of some seventy five miles, has fine and warm beaches, wild and beautiful coves bathed by a radiant sun and the gentle waters of the mediterranean. The resorts of Vinaroz, Peniscola, Oropesa and Benicassim are the places most visitors head for. At the same time, less well known places – like Benicarlo – are beginning to flourish. Other coastal towns include Alcossebre situated just 30 minutes from busy Castellón, which is blessed with miles of beautiful sandy beaches - ideal both for sun worshippers and for lovers of watersports including water-skiing, wind surfing and yachting. Another sandy beach at El Forti runs from the port to the mouth of the river Servol and is famous for its langoustines and also an ideal location water sports. One of the more developed resorts on the Costa Del Azahar is the beach town of Oropesa. It has several fine beaches, including La Concha (the shell) and Morre de Gos. The many unspoilt beach coves have classic views of the Mediterranean and have a reputation as clean and safe waters. Beside these there is a modern yacht harbour with around 700 berths offering full marina facilities and water sports activities.
Valencia has long been recognised as having one of the most prestigious locations for regattas with superb sailing conditions and excellent ports. Its status was confirmed by being chosen to host the America´s Cup in 2007. Valencia, was chosen for its tourism infrastructure and because steady summer breezes guarantee start times for the 32nd edition of the race. It is the first time the event has been held off mainland Europe in its 152-year history.
