Attractions in Seville

The city is a treasure trove of architecture, art and history. Among the many points of interest are the minaret of La Giralda and the cathedral (one of the largest in Christendom), and the Alcázar Palace. The Fine Arts Museum houses the second largest picture gallery in Spain.

For all its monuments and history, Seville is universally famous for being a joyous town, and Sevillians are known for their wit and sparkle. This is the city of Carmen, Don Juan and Figaro.

The town hosts two major events in springtime. The Fería de Abril is a week-long party of drink, food and dance, with men parading on fine horses and women dancing in brilliantly coloured gypsy dresses. Immediately before that is Semana Santa (Holy Week) a religious festival where hooded penitents march in long processions followed by huge baroque floats.

Seville is credited with the invention of tapas, and has more than a thousand bars where the choice of food is virtually unlimited, from seafood to ham and sausage, vegetables to cheese. Sevillians actually make a meal of them, moving from bar to bar, trying one dish at a time.

Motor Sports in Andalucia

Motor Sports in Andalucia

This is rally country, especially The Sierras of Córdoba and Montoro, and there is fabulous terrain for a real drive. A 4x4 vehicle is recommended, and you don’t have to go far to get into driving country. For example, the natural park Sierra de las Nieves is located in the hills behind Marbella A mere 10 or 15 kilometers inland there are tracks, paths and, sometimes, almost-roads deep in forests, across streams, up hillsides, along valleys and dried-up riverbeds.

Motor bikers can enjoy even more of this wonderful area. Andalucia is one giant off-road paradise and bikers can feast themselves on terrain as testing or as comfortable as they choose. It can be a fascinating and rewarding way to experience some parts of the Andalusian countryside, which are, for one reason or another, inaccessible either by vehicle or on foot. Bike rentals are also available.

If you choose to rely on your own internal motor, cycling or mountain biking might be your choice. Mountain biking and cycling are viewed as both serious sports and a relaxing pastime in Andalucia and it is not unusual to be overtaken by a group of lycra-clad cyclists tackling the steep mountain roads, particularly at weekends.

Activities in Andalucia

Activities in Andalucia

The famous beaches and resorts of Costa del Sol and Costa de la Luz have historically been the lure for holidaymakers. More recently, tastes have become broader, and travellers seek a wider range of activities and experience. This important region of Spain is a perfect destination to satisfy this need.

Andalucía is one of the most mountainous regions in Spain; a fact few people who visit the Costas appreciate. It is also excellent walking country, particularly around Grazalema, which is similarly ideal for a range of other outdoor activities, including rock climbing, caving and paragliding – even skiing in winter. Trout fishing is also popular in the mountainous regions of Andalucía.

One of the best areas to appreciate the craggy mountain landscape is the natural park of the ´Sierra de Grazalema´. The best time to visit is during the spring, early summer or autumn as mid-summer gets very hot. The park extends into the northwest of Málaga province where one of the most famous prehistoric caves is located - Cueva de Pileta.

Whether by sea, or by land, activities in Andalucia are for everyone. Seeing motor sport races, taking a mountain biking tour, or sampling some water sports make for a perfect way to spend your holiday in Andalucia. You will have plenty of choices for your holiday villa in Andalucia. Be it a mountain cabin overlooking soaring peaks, or a cosmopolitan apartment in Seville, your holiday in Andalucia will be unforgettable!
