Portugal villas and apartment in Algarve options are so varied that you will need to give your holiday destination plenty of consideration before selecting your villa holiday in Portugal. If you choose to visit the capital city of Lisbon you can experience the Atlantic coast and visit the 16th century Sao Roque church and the Baroque chapel. Choose from the many Lisbon villas and you will also have access to the art collection at the Gulbenkian Museum as well as the Archeological Museum and the National Museum of Ancient art. When you have found your Portugal vacation rental you will also be able to experience the feasts and popular saints festival and see the cow parade. Lisbon’s most symbolic monuments are located in the historical area of Belém: Here you can see the Torre de Belém (Tower of Belém) and the Mosteiro dos Jerónimos (Jerónimos Monastery). Both monuments have received World Heritage status. The Padrão dos Descobrimentos (Monument of the Discoveries) pays homage to the greatest Portuguese explorers, The Castelo de São Jorge (Saint George’s Castle) was wrested in 1147 from the Moors by D. Afonso Henriques, the first king of Portugal. He also gave the orders to build the Sé (Cathedral). The São Roque Church is one of the first Jesuit centres in Portugal, whilst the Estrela Basilica houses a manger scene comprising over 500 pieces. Santa Engrácia Church, also known as the Panteão Nacional (National Pantheon), houses the tomb of the Portuguese fado singer, Amália Rodrigues. You can also visit the resorts of Cascais and Estoril by taking a Costa do Sol villa. Other areas include Azores villa rental, Madeira villas and Alentejo villas for your consideration. The Algarve coast is around 100 miles long and features many beach resorts around Aljezur and the Vicentine coast. At Monte Clérigo you can enjoy grilled fish, or elsewhere walk the hills of Aljezur to the 10th-Century Moorish castle, head on to the Cabo de São Vicente (Cape St. Vincent), the southwestern tip of Europe, and considered to be the “world’s end” in the Middle Ages. It was in Sagres that the maritime adventures began under the command of Prince Henry the Navigator. At the Fortaleza do Infante, take a look at the immense wind compass (43 metres wide), and visit the Capela da Nossa Senhora da Graça. Head to Albufeira for golf at the fantastic Vale do Lobo club or make the short trip from Faro airport to the Quinta do Lago golf complex. The regions of Ribatejo and Alentejo host the historic towns of Elvas, Evora, Tomar and Beja which are fantastic for private villas in Portugal. You can visit the church of St Francis, the Chapel of Bones and the Roman Temple of Diana. If you like castles you can visit Alfaiates, Sortelha, Vilar Maior, Sabugal, Castelo Mendo, Castelo Bom, Castelo Rodrigo, Penamacor, Monsanto and Pinhel, as well as the fortress of Almeida. Most of them are classified as national monuments, going back to the 11th, 12th and 13th centuries and don’t miss the experience of the 20 Castles Route, as you get to know the Portuguese people and their history.
