The rapidly rising star of European golf, Portugal gives you plenty of fantastic options. These can be split geographically into two regions: the famous Algarve and the up and coming Lisbon Coast. Both offer an array of beautiful golf courses that have resulted in Portuguese golf holidays gaining the excellent reputation they now have. A great climate, superb cuisine and wonderful golfing means that self catering golf breaks to Portugal are here to stay, so take advantage before they got too popular!
One of Europe's favourite golfing destinations is the beautiful region of the Algarve. There are many great venues up and down the coastline leaving golfers often spoilt for choice on an Algarve golf holiday. Just a small selection includes the magnificent Le Meridien Penina in Portimao, Pestana Carvoeiro near Albufeira and the luxurious surroundings of Vilamoura. The 27 hole layout at Vila Sol provides a thoroughly entertaining round and so do the two courses at Quinta Do Lago. All of these are within easy reach of Faro Airport, making short or long golf breaks to the Algarve a great option when planning your next golf holiday.
The Lisbon Coast is one of the fastest growing golfing regions in Europe and already boasts some of the best courses in Portugal. Just a short drive from Lisbon city centre brings you to some quality courses including Estoril and Penha Longha - both hosts to the Portuguese Open. A bit further north is the stunning Praia d'El Rey 5 star resort which is ideal for a week long Portuguese golf holiday. For winter golf breaks to warmer climes or some summer sun, the resorts of Aroeira and Quinta da Marinha offer the ideal surroundings in which to relax. In addition, the vibrant capital city of Lisbon is never far away, ensuring that your golf break in Portugal is as entertaining or relaxing, as you want it to be.
It’s hard to imagine a better scene for a golfer – during the day… clear blue skies, pristine golf courses and the sun on your back – and in the evening… a few drinks around the pool at your own private villa recounting 'the putt' that dropped in from 25ft.
